Conservative conference: Head of Manchester Met warns against returning to the polytechnic era

Manchester Metropolitan University’s vice-chancellor has warned that the government’s current push to expand degree apprenticeships should not lead to the re-establishment of polytechnics.

Malcolm Press said it would be “madness” to separate education from research, adding that students on both academic and vocational courses benefited from the university environment.
