Number of 18-year-olds out of employment or education soars

England data show number of young Neets at highest level in more than a decade

The number of 18-year-olds in England who are not in employment, education or training rose to its highest level since 2009 last year, Department for Education statistics show.

According to government data for the 2022 calendar year, 15.9 per cent of 18-year-olds were classified as ‘Neets’, up 6.1 percentage points since 2021.
