University and College Union considers more industrial action after chaotic week sees last-minute cancellations

A planned week of strike action across 140 universities failed to materialise last month, with scores of institutions pulling out as the dates for action arrived.

Strikes had been set to go ahead on 25-29 September in a long-running dispute over pay and working conditions. Then, on 22 September, the University and College Union confirmed that members would only walk out at 42 universities, with staff at a further 10 institutions set to strike on at least one day.
