UCU slams ‘anti-democratic’ laws for stopping its latest strikes

Union members vote for strikes but turnout too low to secure legal right for action

The University and College Union has slammed the UK’s trade union laws for being “anti-democratic” as its members will not be allowed to take industrial action despite voting for it.

The UCU revealed on 6 November that over two-thirds of voters in a recent ballot backed taking strike action over pay and working conditions, while three-quarters of voters supported taking other forms of industrial action.
