Skills shortage 

A national body is needed to gather labour market intelligence to help plug the skills gap and scale up innovation in the UK, according to the National Centre for Universities and Business. The NCUB was responding to recent Office for National Statistics data showing 988,000 vacancies across all sectors between July and September this year. Rosalind Gill, head of policy and engagement at the NCUB said that such a shortfall is not helpful in meeting the UK ambition to scale up innovation and address the current skills gaps across the economy. “Action is needed to address this gap, anticipate skills needs and build a workforce fit for the future,” she added.
