UK falls on global Academic Freedom Index

Country ranked below Georgia and Mali, with worsening campus integrity and academic expression

The UK is falling behind on academic freedom, as a study found a “substantial” decline in the country over the past decade.

According to the Academic Freedom Index Update 2023, the UK ranks 61st of 179 countries for its freedom of expression in academia, coming in below countries including Argentina, Georgia and Mali.
