UK students over-repaid loans by £20m last year

More than 25,000 people still awaiting reimbursement after paying too much in 2021-22

The number of students over-repaying their student loans—and the total amount that they overpaid—rocketed between 2019-20 and 2021-22, with borrowers overpaying by £20 million, according to official statistics.

Student Loans Company figures, published on 16 March, show that more than 52,000 graduates and other student loan customers overpaid in 2021-22—an increase of 15 per cent on 2020-21. They over-repaid £20.4m, up 19 per cent on the previous year.
