Limerick first Irish institution to be awarded Athena Swan silver

University has shown commitment to gender equality by overhauling its approach to recruitment and promotion

The University of Limerick has become the first institution in Ireland to receive an Athena Swan Silver Award in recognition of its commitment to promoting gender equality.

Advance HE, which administers the scheme, said that in the past three years, Limerick had doubled its number of female associate professors and increased the number of female professors by a third following a review of recruitment and promotion processes.
