Government wants to recruit more postgraduate trainees, despite sharp fall in student numbers last year
A university group has warned that the government’s decision to increase targets for postgraduate recruitment to Initial Teacher Training courses “will make the shortfall even worse”.
Recruitment targets for 2023-24, published on 27 April, show that the Department for Education wants to see 35,540 trainees starting postgraduate teacher training courses from September, a 9 per cent increase on its target for last year.
