UCU member ‘quits over union’s approach to harassment case’

Anti-sexual harassment group accuses UCU of problematic approaches to assisting academics involved in complaints

Some branches of the University and College Union are using “harmful tactics” to defend staff accused of sexual violence and harassment, a report has claimed.

The 1752 Group, which researches sexual misconduct in UK higher education, says “one staff member even left the union as a result of her complaint, due to the aggressive action against her that union representatives were encouraging the [accused] staff member to engage in”.
