Drop in disadvantaged UK school leavers entering university

Ucas statistics show record number of young applicants using clearing

The number of 18-year-olds accepted onto higher education courses has fallen year on year, with the number of disadvantaged school-leavers starting university also down, Ucas figures show.

According to data published on 21 September, which show student acceptances as they were one month after A-level results day, overall the number of UK 18-year-olds finding a place at university is down by 1.8 per cent on last year (270,350 compared with 275,390).
