Shadow education secretary talks up universities and promises to tackle financial woes

Bridget Phillipson, Labour’s shadow education secretary—who is tipped to be kept in the education brief should Labour win the election next week—has said that stabilising finances in the university sector will be a “day one” priority for her.

On the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg politics show on 23 June, Kuenssberg asked about the crisis in university funding and specifically whether Labour would use public money to bail out a higher education institution that was about to go under.
