University research officials’ arguments against proposed REF2029 open access requirements “drops bombshell” into debate

Prominent academics have criticised University of Oxford research leaders for their recent call to scrap open access requirements in the next cycle of Research Excellence Framework.

The call came in an 11 June blog post, co-authored by three senior research officials at Oxford for the Higher Education Policy Institute, in which they argued that open access requirements for the next REF would increase costs and bureaucracy in research outputs.
