Voters ‘want government to bail out failing universities’

Union poll suggests 74 per cent of public favour financial intervention

Almost three in four voters think the next government should step in with emergency funding for universities in a financial crisis, according to a University and College Union poll. 

The polling—conducted on a nationally representative UK sample of 2,000 people—finds that a majority of supporters of every major political party believe that government should intervene if a university finds itself at risk of closure, with 74 per cent of all respondents believing it is would be important to do so.
