Goldsmiths ‘exploiting sense of crisis’ to make cuts, UCU says

University defends actions after union blasts its justifications for redundancy plans as “deeply dishonest”

The University and College Union has lambasted a plan by Goldsmiths, University of London, to make up to 90 staff members redundant, accusing it of “exploiting a sense of crisis” in the sector.

“It is despicable and perplexing that Goldsmiths is exploiting the generalised sense of crisis in the higher education sector to burn down its own house,” a UCU spokesperson said in a statement published on 9 August.
