Universities urged to better support ‘third space’ staff

Higher Education Policy Institute report calls for focus on lab, tech-transfer and impact leaders

Universities have been urged to provide better support to their ‘third space’ staff—described as neither academics nor professional staff, and including people who oversee labs, equipment, technology transfer and impact.

A report published on 7 August by the Higher Education Policy Institute (Hepi) says “universities need to acknowledge and develop alternative career paths” for these people, and do more to support them when they join the sector.
