Universities should be doing more to work with legislatures, say Marc Geddes and Danielle Beswick
The Research Excellence Framework, and more recently the Knowledge Exchange Framework, have made policy engagement increasingly important for universities. But as well as creating incentives, they have shaped policy engagement in less beneficial ways.
A recent project by us revealed some of these and a route forward. With funding from the Economic and Social Research Council, we explored how the UK’s four legislatures engage with universities, and how to strengthen knowledge exchange.
