Delivery will be the test of Wales’s innovation strategy

          

Missions make sense, but their objectives are still vague, say Rick Delbridge and Kevin Morgan

Late last month, the Welsh government launched its first innovation policy in over a decade. Wales Innovates: Creating a stronger, fairer, greener Wales is a 58-page document setting out what it calls “a different approach to innovation in the future”. 

The strategy acknowledges the challenges posed by recent changes in funding, most obviously the loss of European Union structural funds. As Vaughan Gething, minister of economy in the devolved government, put it at the launch event: “We have less control over less money.”
