International education programme cuts ‘dangerous and damaging’

Congress’ decision in April to significantly cut funding for the Department of Education’s International Education and Foreign Language Studies in the current fiscal year (FY) is suddenly facing a backlash from the academic community.

A former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, and a former Republican Senator, Chuck Hagel, who are professors at Georgetown University, have expressed serious concern about the abrupt cut in funding for the studies in FY2011.
