Motherhood seen as main barrier for women in science

Women with advanced degrees in maths-intensive academic fields drop out of fast-track research careers primarily due to their desire to become mothers, rather than because of issues regarding their performance or the interviewing and hiring process, according to research released by Cornell University.

The work, released on 14 February, was funded by the National Institutes of Health.
