Women badly under-represented in global S&E

Women are dramatically under-represented globally in the science and engineering workforce and scientific leadership positions, according to research presented at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s (AAAS) annual meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, last month.

In the US, women comprised one-third of the science and engineering workforce in 2005, a number that fell slightly over the next five years, according to preliminary findings from a joint study by WIGSAT, a non-profit international consulting group, and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World.
