High-quality research urged to address mass shootings

Scientific research on violence prevention and mental health should be considered in response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School last month that killed 20 children and six adults, and other recent mass shootings, Michael Halpern from the Union of Concerned Scientists has written in an article for CNN.

Halpern, who manages UCS’ scientific integrity programme, said important scientific research that focuses on gun violence has been “shut down for political purposes”.
