Budget battle commences again in Congress

Roll up, roll up! It’s that time of year again—the time when science policy experts, researchers and amateur analysts alike start poring over lawmakers’ proposed budgets, placing bets on which federal agencies will come out on top and which will go home empty handed.

Of course, it’ll be months before the roulette wheel stops spinning and Congress lands on numbers it hopes everyone can agree are appropriate, through painstaking and lengthy negotiation. But it’s fun to dream sometimes, isn’t it?
