Republicans are getting increasingly vocal about their issues with Department of Energy R&D funding

More fuel was heaped on a smouldering research policy fire last week. As we reported on our news pages, Republican politicians have raised concerns about the Department of Energy’s management of R&D after its creation of a new office led to responsibilities being split between leaders.

You are likely familiar with the story. The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) was set up at the end of 2021 to bring clean energy technologies from the lab to the market more quickly, and it has been allocated funding of $27 billion. That is a significant pot of money.
