Plea to save international education programmes

The Coalition for International Education (CIE), an ad hoc group of national higher education organisations, is urging House and Senate appropriators to fund the Department of Education’s Title VI international education programmes at the Senate’s higher spending level in fiscal year 2012.

The Senate has proposed to allocate $75.7 million for the programmes, which represents flat funding. Although the House has proposed to level fund Title VI domestic programmes it also wants to eliminate funding for the Fulbright-Hays overseas programmes and Title VI-C, the Institute for Public Policy programme.
