Two lawmakers are urging the army to pay greater attention to safety concerns as it develops a new Medical Countermeasure Test and Evaluation Facility in Fort Detrick, Maryland, that will research and test new drugs and vaccines on animals for military and civilian purposes.
The 7 October statement from Democratic Maryland Sens. Ben Cardin and Barbara Mikulski came after a National Academy of Sciences (NAS) report in September that found flaws in the army’s site specific risk assessment (SSRA) for the proposed new facility.
