Tribute paid to ‘unflagging’ biomedical research champion

Senator Daniel Inouye, who died at the age of 88 on 17 December, was eulogised as an “unflagging champion of biomedical research” by the director of the National Institutes of Health, Francis Collins.

A decorated World War II veteran, the Hawaiian lawmaker served as chairman of the Senate of Appropriations Committee. At one time he also chaired the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee.
