Research and health care advocacy groups are fighting a proposal to eliminate the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), which was inserted in the fiscal year (FY) 2013 budget approved by a House appropriations subcommittee.
If enacted, the subcommittee’s 18 July bill would eliminate AHRQ with effect from 1 October. The agency, tasked with supporting research that improves the quality, safety and effectiveness of health care, has a $405 million budget.
