Public-private nuclear energy bill moves toward House floor

The United States Department of Energy could soon be doing more to help companies collaborate with national laboratories on nuclear energy R&D.

The House science committee approved a bipartisan bill that gives the DOE new responsibility to emphasize partnerships between the national labs and private companies working on new reactor designs.

The bill has the support of the leaders of the House science committee, Lamar Smith, Republican of Texas, and Eddie Bernice Johnson, Democrat of Texas.
