HHS refuses to sell marijuana for PTSD study

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has refused to sell the non-profit Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies the marijuana needed for its planned study of the drug’s ability to treat veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

In a September 29 statement, the Santa Cruz, California-based MAPS said its proposed pilot study of marijuana use for 50 veterans with chronic, treatment-resistant PTSD was at a “standstill,” following HHS’s refusal to sell researchers marijuana for the trial.
