Defence research grants and contracts under scrutiny

The Inspector General of the Department of Defense (DOD) has initiated an audit of all R&D grants and contracts awarded by the department’s Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) in fiscal years 2010 and 2011.

The action, announced in a 12 August letter to the Project on Government Oversight, was a response to concerns about the award and administration of DARPA contracts and grants, and the need to prevent conflicts of interest in the process.
