Polarising bear research: citation or black eye?

There is concern that an expanded investigation by the Interior Department’s Inspector General (IG) into one of the agency’s Arctic scientists, Charles Monnett, is disrupting research into the condition of Arctic polar bears, and is also jeopardising a joint US-Canadian research effort.

Monnett—a wildlife biologist with the Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEM) —has been suspended since 18 July 2011 for reasons that have not been fully divulged.
