Plaintiffs challenging National Institute of Health (NIH) regulations that broaden federal funding of human embryonic stem cell (hESC) research filed an appeal on 19 September to reinstate their case, which was dismissed by the US District Court for the District of Columbia in July.
The dismissed lawsuit claimed that the NIH stem cell policy put in place by the Obama administration violates a 1996 law—known as the Dickey-Wicker amendment—that prohibits taxpayer money from funding research that harms an embryo.
