Berkeley lab launches $54m solar energy facility

The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California has broken ground on a $54 million Solar Energy Research Center (SERC) that is expected to be completed in late 2014.

About 75 people will work at the 40,000 square foot facility, which will house the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP), the Department of Energy’s energy innovation hub that aims to find a cost-effective method to produce fuels using only sunlight, water and carbon-dioxide.
