NIH grant applicants strain resources

The amount of money requested by applicants to the National Institutes of Health to pursue their own research has tripled over the past 13 years, mainly because of a near doubling in the number of scientists applying.

The trend was revealed in a blog post by Sally Rockey, NIH’s deputy director for extramural research, on 9 August.
