Weather forecasting urged to keep up with science

The National Weather Service (NWS) needs to a better job of keeping pace with advances in science and technology and partnering with other weather, water and climate-related institutions in order to meet the growing needs of its users.

That is the message of a National Research Council report on the NWS, which provides data, forecasts and warnings about weather, water, and climate. It is one of the six scientific agencies that make up the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
