NIH lab director punished for falsifying data

The National Institutes of Health will put Bijan Ahvazi under close supervision for 2 years for manipulating and misrepresenting data in three papers in 2004 and 2006.

The former director of the X-ray crystallography laboratory at the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases will need to prove that his work is being overseen to receive any public funding. He will also not be allowed to sit on NIH peer-review boards during those 2 years.

Two of Ahvazi’s Journal of Biological Chemistry papers on transglutaminase structure have been retracted. The other was rejected before publication.
