DoE announces funding for nuclear development

The United States Department of Energy is looking for proposals for industry-led nuclear reactors to boost the country’s power produced from nuclear energy.

The $30-million funding opportunity announced by DoE secretary Rick Perry on 7 December is for early-stage investments in advanced nuclear technology. The department says that the programme aim is to develop infrastructure that will support a “strong future domestic industry“.

The DoE wants to encourage US companies to work with federal agencies, private laboratories, and higher-education institutions on nuclear energy research.
