NIH pledges more support for mid-career researchers

The National Institutes of Health has published the details of its plans to make early and mid-career researchers more independent.

The Next Generation Researchers Initiative, officially announced on 31 August, was developed after an initial plan to limit support for established researchers in favour of early-career ones was scrapped following intense criticism.

The policy changes update the definition of what are called Early Stage Investigators, those who completed their research degree within the past 10 years.
