EPA extends public input to repeal of Clean Power Plan

The Environmental Protection Agency has announced it will hold three further public hearings on the proposed repeal of the Clean Power Plan, following a trial event in West Virginia at which the public overwhelmingly spoke out against the repeal.

The agency held its first listening session in West Virginia in November 2017, where coal miners from Appalachia, environmental groups and local residents were able to speak about the controversial regulation.

“In response to significant interest surrounding the proposed repeal of the Clean Power Plan and the success of the West Virginia hearing, we will now hold listening sessions across the country to ensure all stakeholders have an opportunity to provide input,” said Scott Pruitt, the EPA administrator, in a statement published on 11 January.
