Praise for nominated Nasa administrator, while health secretary narrowly confirmed in Senate vote

Science leadership positions are filling up in Joe Biden’s administration, with the US president announcing his pick for the head of Nasa, and Congress confirming the new secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services.

On 19 March, Biden nominated former senator Bill Nelson (pictured) to be the next Nasa administrator. Nelson, who has served on the space agency’s advisory council since 2019, had a hand in major legislation passed in 2010 that set the trajectory for the agency’s current course of pursing both government and commercial missions.
