NIH simplifying how it reviews grant proposals

Changes to National Institutes of Health processes intended to reduce complexity and bias

The National Institutes of Health is simplifying its grant review process so evaluators can focus on assessing the scientific and technical merits of proposals.

The current five review criteria are being streamlined into three from 2025, the NIH announced on 19 October. These are: the importance of the research (its significance and innovation); its rigour and feasibility; and the expertise of the researcher and the resources of their environment.
