President confirms intention to nominate present director of the National Cancer Institute for larger role

Research organisations have praised US president Joe Biden’s confirmation of his intention to nominate Monica Bertagnolli to be the next director of the National Institutes of Health.

Media had previously reported that Biden intended to nominate the surgeon and researcher to head up the NIH, which is the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research and had a budget of $45 billion in 2022.
