US research security standards ‘must be risk-based’

    

Council on Governmental Relations says standards for preventing foreign interference will have significant impact

Government requirements to ensure the integrity of US research against foreign interference must be “tailored to address the level of risk presented”, an umbrella group for the sector has said.

The Council on Governmental Relations, an association of more than 200 organisations including research universities and institutes, called for the proposed Research Security Programs Standard Requirement to be “risk-based” in a consultation response it sent to the White House’s Office of Science and Technology Policy.
