Get a grip on space debris, NASA told

NASA should develop a formal strategic plan for managing hazardous orbital debris like abandoned equipment and spent rocket bodies, according to a National Research Council (NRC) report released on 1 September.

Because NASA’s numerous meteoroid and orbital debris activities lacked a single management and budget structure capable of providing efficient coordination, the NRC said, the agency should draw up a plan to help prioritise efforts and allocate funds to the work.
