BP ordered to give NAS $350M for oil spill research

The British energy multinational BP will give the US National Academy of Sciences $350 million to establish a 30-year programme focused on human health and environmental protection research in the Gulf of Mexico.

The payment is part of a $4.5 billion court settlement between the US federal government and BP, announced on 15 November, relating to the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon accident in the Gulf of Mexico.
