An award for seemingly obscure or frivolous research projects that have led to major breakthroughs has been launched to by a coalition of science organisations, higher education associations, lawmakers and industry groups.
Creation of the Golden Goose Award was announced on 25 April by the American Association of Universities (AAU), together with lawmakers including Reps. Jim Cooper, D-TN, Charlie Dent, R-PA, and Robert Dold, R-IL, as well as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, the Task Force on American Innovation, and others.
