Physics societies call for action to avert budget cuts

US physics societies collectively representing more than 135,000 scientists have called on President Obama and leaders of the House and Senate to find a solution to avoid automatic federal budget cuts of approximately 8 per cent on 2 January.

The societies say such cuts would “jeopardise the fabric of science and technology”.
