Foundation gives $3m to global engineering talks

The Grainger Foundation, a private trust based Illinois, has given the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) $3 million to support its Frontiers of Engineering program, which includes a US symposium each year and a rotating schedule of bilateral meetings of engineers from the US and Germany, Japan, India, China, and the European Union.

The donation, the second from the foundation to the NAE program, was announced on 19 March. “We are pleased to continue our support for the Frontiers of Engineering symposia, which have a proven track record for establishing critical connections between outstanding young engineers around the world,” said David Grainger, the foundation’s president and director.

The funding will also support The Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering Grants, which provide seed funding to Frontiers of Engineering participants based in the US, to pursue projects stimulated by the symposia.
