Monkey deaths prompt Harvard research halt

After the fourth monkey death at Harvard Medical School’s (HMS) New England Primate Research Center (NEPRC) in less than two years, on 28 February Jeffrey Flier, dean of HMS’ faculty of medicine, announced an immediate halt to all new research protocols and new research on existing protocols at the centre.

Flier described recent incidents at the NEPRC as “absolutely unacceptable, deeply regrettable and personally disturbing”.
